Simon Walls’s role as executive director of markets at the FCA has been made permanent, after holding the position on a temporary basis since 2024.
Elsewhere, Johan Sekora has joined the regulator as chief operating officer.
FCA chief executive Nikhil Rathi commented, “Simon’s appointment provides continuity as we continue to reform our wholesale markets, while Johan brings significant international experience that will help us operate more efficiently and effectively in the interests of consumers, markets and the wider economy.”
Walls has 20 years of industry experience, all spent with the FCA. He has previously been sell-side and wholesale director at the regulator, and led the wholesale markets supervision department for more than five years.
Sekora has close to 25 years of industry experience and has been global head of financial crime prevention at SEB since 2021. He was also a senior strategy and business development advisor for corporate and investment banking at the company.
The majority of Sekora’s career has been spent at HSBC where he held roles including global chief operating officer for regulatory compliance and chief operating officer for HSBC Italy.
