Alphabet leads August issuance race

Alphabet, the holding company of Google, completed the largest corporate bond issuance globally this month with US$24.15 billion in US dollar-denominated bonds.

The firm accomplished a similar achievement last May, with a combination of US dollar- and euro-denominated notes.

Alphabet has been a prolific issuer as a hyperscaler over the last year, issuing $87.91bn since September 2025.

Issued on 10 August, this latest offering is split across 10 tranches.

The two largest tranches, with a value of US$4.5 billion each, have been issued at a 5.45% coupon due August 2036 and a 6.375% coupon due February 2056 respectively.

A further U$3.5 billion is due August 2031, with a 4.875% coupon, and US$3 billion has been issued at a 6.25% coupon due February 2046.

Two more tranches with a US$2.5 billion value have a 5.2% coupon (due August 2033) and a 6.5% coupon (due August 2066) respectively. Another US$2 billion issuance, with a 4.625% coupon, is due August 2029.

The remaining debt is split across two shorter-dated August 2028 bonds, the first US$1.25 billion in floating rate notes with a 4.5% coupon, and the second US$750 million with a 4.078% coupon. Finally, US$500 million has been issued in floating rate bonds with a 4.238% coupon, due August 2029.

According to Alphabet’s SEC filings proceeds will be used for general corporate purposes, potentially including the repayment of outstanding debt.
