LSEG pays big for FI data offering boost

LSEG has announced its upcoming acquisition of credit intelligence, data and workflow provider Octus in a US$5.353 billion deal.

This figure is significantly higher than the speculated US$3.5 billion estimated earlier this month.

Octus, which specialises in coverage of private, illiquid and distressed credit, is projected to generate more than US$300 million in revenue for full-year 2026.

The acquisition is expected to increase LSEG’s existing fixed income offering, which focuses on liquid public and private markets.

The deal highlights the convergence of public and private credit, with the latter holding an estimated value of US$3.5 trillion. Support for the industry – including data, workflow and access solutions – is valued at US$7-9 billion, according to LSEG.

Growth in the sector has prompted tight competition in the data space, with Octus competing against companies like 9fin (valued at US$1.3 billion) and private market specialist PitchBook, operated by Morningstar.

Octus will become part of LSEG’s data and analytics division, which reported US$1 billion in Q3 2026. This marked a 4.2% increase year-on-year.

Octus founder Kent Collier will continue to run the business, reporting to division co-heads Gianluca Biagini and Ron Lefferts.
