Marex opens EM credit desk

Marex has launched an emerging markets (EM) credit desk.

The desk covers both sovereign and corporate debt, and is part of Marex’s broader cross-asset platform. In its first phase, the desk will be focused on higher-yield and special-situation opportunities in emerging Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

Aaron Fernandes, head of European and Asian EM, will lead the desk with Matthew Vogel, head of EM strategy, and senior trader Paul Timmons.

Fernandes commented, “EM credit still benefits from a high-touch, content-led approach. Our hybrid model lets us act like a speedboat in a market of tankers pairing agency execution with targeted risk-taking and the ability to extend credit when it makes sense.”

The desk will take an agency-first approach, with the ability to extend client credit in appropriate environments, the firm added, and will provide catalyst, trade path and implementation-focused analysis.

Clients will be able to pair EM credit trades with rates overlays and listed hedges, and align their execution with FX and cross-currency settlement if needed.
