People moves: Tumasz joins Oaktree; Trumid poaches Swaby; RBC expands DCM team

Erik Tumasz has joined Oaktree Capital Management as managing director and head of investment and trading technology.

Tumasz is well respected in buy-side circles for his work at former employer Wellington Management. He spent 17 years at the firm most recently as managing director for portfolio implementation and optimization technology, and prior to that as managing director and head of trading technology OMS platform.

There he was responsible or driving strategy and execution, as part of overall management of global fixed income, derivatives, FX, and equity trading technology teams to meet the firm’s strategic directions, leading a team of over 120 including project managers, business analysts, software developers, and quality assurance engineers supporting over 50 applications and 200 users.

Prior to that he had built experience for several years at Charles River Development and PriceWaterhouseCoopers.

Daniel Swaby has joined bond market operator Trumid, from Liquidnet. His new role is as senior emerging markets credit sales, a beat he has covered for 13 years, including at his previous firms as well as NatWest Markets and MarketAxess.

RBC has expanded its debt capital market (DCM) European origination and syndicate capabilities with three new additions to the platform. Hires include:
• Alex Ulrich who has joined as a director from UniCredit’s FI DCM Origination unit. He will be based in RBC’s Frankfurt office with a mandate to expand our client roster and coverage with European Banks. He will report to Peter Riera, head of European FI origination.
• Eugen Eichwald has joined as a vice-president from LBBW’s DCM Syndicate desk. He will also be based in Frankfurt and will establish our syndicate desk. He will have a mandate to work alongside Alex and the rest of the origination teams in expanding our EUR currency DCM primary capability, and will report to Anthony Tobin, head of European DCM Syndicate.
• June Blake has joined as an associate from Deutsche Bank’s Corporate Origination unit. She will be based in London and be responsible for supporting European Corporate DCM Origination activities in continental Europe. Blake will report to Christian Solbach, head of DACH Corporate origination.
Sean Taor, European Head of DCM and Syndicate, said, “These three appointments further strengthen RBC’s European DCM coverage and execution efforts at a time when the bank is strategically looking to expand its EUR currency primary product offering across the DCM sectors.”
